Pluto in Capricorn

Pluto was in the human consciousness from Feb. 18, 1930 to the present day, although on Aug. 24, 2006 the IAU demoted it to a "dwarf planet." A symbol that has been in the human psyche for 76 years cannot suddenly be erased by an act of will or mind, so it is well worth seeing what this planet has in store for us during its 16-year sojourn in Capricorn. Taking 248 years to circle the Sun, Pluto averages 21 years in a sign, so it affects and characterizes the psyches of entire generations (However, since all planets change houses every two hours due to the earth’s daily rotation, Pluto’s position by house in your chart is very individual).

Pluto rules the criminal as well as the geological underworld, and this is a period when we will see more influence of the shadow and corruption in governments everywhere. This is also a time when governments will have to keep close watch on their thermonuclear devices, also symbolized by Pluto. The earthquake, tsunami, and nuclear disaster in Japan are Pluto in Capricorn harbingers for us all. Pluto symbolizes evolution or death. That which cannot grow must die to make room for the new, as plant life does every fall in Pluto-ruled Scorpio to be reborn the following spring in the opposite sign Taurus. Many animal species are becoming extinct, and perhaps Homo sapiens will join them as the entrenched corporate/political power behind oil avoids its responsibility in global warming. The danger is remaining silent, as Pluto can be in its defense.
